Seeing Pele’s luxurious Hamptons mansion, fans remember a legend
Pele, the soccer legend hailed as Brazil’s greatest and possibly the world’s most legendary icon, passed away on December 30 at the age of 82.
While fans around the world mourn the loss of this iconic figure, the residents of New York’s prestigious Hamptons are reminiscing about their former neighbor and his iconic residence at 156 Waterhole Road, where he resided for 40 years.
According to Dirt.com, Steve Ross, the former chairman of Time Warner, initially enticed Pele to come to New York and subsequently signed him to the New York Cosmos in 1970. After securing a lucrative $4.5 miℓℓiо𝚗 contract, Pele frequently visited Ross at his Hamptons home and eventually purchased the billionaire’s Georgica Pond compound for $156,000 in 1979. The New York Post reported that the three-time World Cup winner sold the Cody House estate for $2.85 miℓℓiо𝚗 in 2018.
Pele utilized the Hamptons estate primarily as a summer retreat for himself and his two daughters, as their main residence was in New York City during that time. The property, which is not currently available on the market, boasts four bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms, encompassing a total of 3,400 square feet. The Corcoran Group previously listed the home on outeast.com, describing it as a waterfront contemporary dwelling that offers a comprehensive package of luxury features.
“The property is located down a winding gated driveway and showcases breathtaking water views from its abundant windows. This unique offering boasts six bedrooms, including master suites on both the first and second floors, five full and two half baths. The master suites open to an expansive deck that spans the entire width of the house. The double-height living room, open plan dining area, and recently renovated kitchen provide ample space for entertaining, with windows and sliders that lead to the adjoining waterside pool and outdoor shower,” the listing stated.
Additional gathering spaces, including a lower level living/play area, office, and media room, as well as a detached garage for storing watersport and garden accessories, further enhance the property. Nestled in the Clearwater Beach area of Springs, the home is situated on a beautifully landscaped acre, benefiting from a deeded beach and marina in close proximity for convenient access to boating activities.
The legacy of Pele lives on not only in the hearts of soccer enthusiasts worldwide but also in the memories of those fortunate enough to have been his neighbors in the picturesque Hamptons.
