Lionel and Antonela were childhood friends and managed to keep their love story fairly private after they reconnected around 2005.

The lovebirds – who share sons Thiago, 11, Mateo, eight, and Ciro, five – didn’t tie the knot until 2017.

The football star previously spoke to FC Barcelona about what family meant to him.

He gushed: ‘You grow and you learn. You gather experience in all aspects of life, on and off the field.

‘But, as a human being, having three children changed my perspective on life, my way of thinking and it also helped me grow.’

Lionel praised Antonela for having ‘lots of great qualities’ and approaching ‘problems admirably.’
