One Piece Editor Reveals He Knows The Most Guarded Secret In Manga: The One Piece Treasure

The One Piece manga and Eiichiro Oda’s current editor Kaito Anayama reveals that he knows the identity of the secret ‘One Piece’ treasure.

One Piece manga editor Kaito Anayama has revealed in a recent interview that he knows what the ‘One Piece’ treasure is.

Comedy duo Kamaitachi recently visited the One Piece section of the Weekly Shonen Jump office as part of a One Piece-themed comedy variety show airing in Japan. There, they met Kaito Anayama — Eiichiro Oda and One Piece‘s current editor — and asked him if he knew what the One Piece was. “I do,” he surprisingly replied. In a playful skit, they then instruct him sternly to never, ever reveal it, before caving in and asking if they could know just the first letter. After an exchange of snacks and the One Piece board game, Vivre Rush, Anayama gave viewers an insight into Oda’s draft storyboards for manga chapters, as seen below.

As part of their tour of the Weekly Shonen Jump office, the duo also spoke to the current editor of Hunter x Hunter, as well as the Jujutsu Kaisen editor (pictured second below). The latter revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami already knows the ending of the manga series. Akutami previously revealed that the manga will likely end in 2024. His editor also shared that not every editor knows how the series they supervise will end and that it’s the personal choice of the writer to share; such is the importance of the secret. Popular One Piece X (formerly Twitter) account Sandman shared a quote from former One Piece editor Takuma Naito, where he revealed that his girlfriend from his school days blocked the editor after he refused to reveal what the One Piece was to her. “What a terrible woman!” he said.

There are a range of theories circulating about what the One Piece is. Oda has previously stated that the One Piece is a real treasure, personally hating the idea that it would be the journey or the bonds made along the way. Fan theories range from it being an ancient weapon, Binks’ Sake, a Poneglyph, a method to destroy the Red Line — creating the All Blue and enabling easy navigation around the world — to other, wilder theories.

Fans can uncover the secret of the One Piece treasure by reading the manga, which has been collected into 107 volumes as of January 2024. VIZ Media licenses the manga in North America and has translated up to Volume 104, which is described: “As the battle between Luffy and Kaido enters the final round, everyone in Wano puts their lives on the line to protect their home. But even if Luffy can actually secure victory, will there be anything left for a new shogun to rule?” Volume 105 will be released internationally on March 12, 2024.
