At the Golden Globes, Poor Things, a film by Yorgos Lanthimos that stars Emma Stone, took home the award for Best Comedy or Musical, and Stone won Best Actress for her performance as Bella Baxter.

“I think this is a rom-com,” Stone said in her acceptance speech. “I see this as a rom-com, but in this sense of Bella falls in love with life itself rather than a person, and she accepts the good and the bad in equal measure. The film is adapted loosely from Alasdair Gray’s novel. As T&C wrote in a preview of the film ahead of the 2023 New York Film Festival, “To call this latest picture from Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favourite) a Frankenstein story might make it sound a bit too mundane.
