If Jennifer Lawrence was nervous as she sashayed onto the stage at Saturday Night Live, she didn’t show it as she breathed new life into the series… back after a short hiatus.
The 22-year-old actress – fresh from her ‘I beat Meryl’ controversy at the Golden Globes – had some strong words for her fellow Best Actress nominees at next month’s Oscars… Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Quvenzhane Wallis, and Emmanuelle Riva.
‘Well, well, well. Look who it is. Jessica Chastain. More like, Jessica Chas-ain’t winning no Oscar on my watch!’ Jennifer said to huge guffaws from the audience.
Lawrence then joked that the best part of the Golden Globes was meeting ‘the most fun person I’ve ever met: Tommy Lee Jones!’
The camera then panned to Bill Hader sitting stony-faced in the crowd mimmicking TLJ at the Golbes ceremony on Sunday.
Later, Lawrence got to do what she does best, and act in a sketch.
Sadly, her Academy Award nominated skills weren’t tested in the role of a wanna-be punk who has been to New York at ‘least’ two or three times and hints bi𝑠e𝑥uality in the Girlfriends Talk Show Sketch.
But an unamused Lindsay Lohan clearly didn’t get the joke. ‘No1 should ever mess with a legend such as Meryl Streep.’
Jennifer who is also nominated for best actress at the Oscars, laughed off the controversy in an interview on The Late Show With David Letterman on Tuesday.
‘I had no idea Lindsay Lohan would take to the Twitterverse (to complain)…Twitter is very upset,’ The Hunger Games actress joked.
Insulting Streep – a three-time winner of the best actress Oscar and nominated on 14 other occasions – was the last thing on her mind, Jennifer said.
‘I was like, is that what this turned into? I don’t like Meryl Streep? As if I’ve had my eyes on getting that girl forever and I was like “Finally! I knew it would happen one day”,’ added Jennifer, describing Streep as ‘the best and the greatest.’
Asked if she had attempted to speak to Streep to clarify her comments, Jennifer replied: ‘I don’t know if I want to — I’m nervous … I wanted to make a public statement, like “Hey idiots. It’s a quote from a movie!”’
Jennifer is already on record as being a huge Streep fan.
In an interview for Vanity Fair magazine she recalled being starstruck after seeing the Hollywood icon at an event.
‘Once I’m obsessed with somebody, I’m terrified of them instantly,’ she told the magazine.
‘I’m not scared of them — I’m scared of me and how I will react. Like, for instance, one time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, “Not now, Bill!” and I just stared at Meryl Streep.’
Jennifer has emerged as one of Hollywood’s hottest talents after her performances in Winter’s Bone, X-Men First Class, The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook.
She attributes her success in acting to her childhood, when she was a ‘big liar.’
‘I was just like a pathological liar when I was a kid,’ she said. ‘I just always lied about everything and I think it was partly I just wanted to one-up somebody.’
