Who is the “eccentric” billionaire who spent up to 42 million USD to create a strange and unprecedented watch?

It is not natural that when mentioning the name of this billionaire, everyone immediately remembers the phrase “eccentric genius”.

‏Jeff Bezos – the richest American billionaire on the planet, CEO of the American multinational technology company Amazon.com, and owner of The Washington Post – spent 42 million USD to build a “Clock of the Long Now”, also known as “The 10,000 Year Super Clock”, with the world’s largest scale.‏

‏The exotic mechanical watch costs a fortune‏

‏This watch is not designed to be worn on the wrist, as it is 500 feet tall, or nearly 152 meters. According to this billionaire, the super clock will only tick once a year and ring once in a millennium (1000 years). Thus, in its 10,000 year lifespan, this giant wonder only rings 10 times!‏

‏The idea of a 10,000-year clock appeared in 1986, in the mind of Professor William Daniel Hillis – an American inventor, businessman and computer scientist who pioneered the use of Parallel computers and their use in artificial intelligence.

Millionaire Danny Hillis, currently a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – MIT Media Lab. He is famous for building supercomputers, autonomous dinosaur robots, and rides in Disney Theme Parks.‏

10 years later, he constantly mobilized financial support for the Long Now Foundation to create this one-of-a-kind watch. In 2005, during a meeting with a good friend – billionaire Jeff Bezos, the two shared the same intention to start planning to build a super clock in the Sierra Diablo mountains, on this billionaire’s property. .‏

‏After years of constant crafting and perfecting, the “Clock of the Long Now” is now safely nestled in the mountains, protected from the elements. The super clock will run on solar energy. However, in 2011, Bezos initiated the opportunity for visitors to wind this interesting watch themselves. ‏

‏How does a 10,000 year clock work?‏

‏Making a mechanical clock that will run for 10 millennia is not simple, a huge technical challenge. In Texas, builders have begun drilling a tunnel through the mountain to build a clock. They then drilled a pilot hole, 153 meters straight from the top of the ridge, until it intersected the tunnel.

‏Meanwhile, millionaire scientist Danny Hillis’s team of experts and technicians worked day and night in the laboratory outside the mountain, to devise and install the clock’s gears and flywheel. ‏

‏Billionaire Jeff Bezos said, this 10,000-year clock wonder has a height of 153 meters, is all mechanical, runs on a day/night thermodynamic cycle and synchronizes at noon. It’s like the chambers inside the Great Pyramid at Giza are filled with sections envisioned by British science fiction novelist Herbert George Wells (1866-1946). ‏

‏When asked why he was determined to build this wonder, billionaire Jeff Bezos said: “In the year 4000, our children and grandchildren will go see this watch and they will wonder: ‘Why did our ancestors build this structure?’, just like we have similar questions about the pyramids in Egypt”.‏

The answer, Jeff Bezos hopes, will help that generation think more deeply about the distant future and its effects on time and the future.

‏Become a “fashion catwalk” for your fiancée‏

‏As the fiancée of the world’s top billionaire, Lauren Sanchez suddenly had an extraordinary experience when turning “Clock of the Long Now” into her own “fashion runway”. In the 42 million USD wonder, she appeared wearing a seductive dark red outfit from Dolce and Gabbana that hugged her body, confidently posing for photos.‏

‏She appears like a rose petal among thorns, creating an image that not many people can experience. In an interview with Vogue magazine, Sanchez revealed that the 10,000-year clock gives her and her future husband a way to “think about the future.”

Sanchez also thinks that her unique photography location will probably serve more purposes in the future. “Wouldn’t it be great to have a Halloween party here?” Sanchez said. ‏

‏In addition to striking poses, Sanchez also gives Vogue readers a glimpse into the world of Blue Origin. Inside the world’s leading aerospace manufacturer, the fashionista shined in a sparkling gold Dolce & Gabbana dress, accented with a pair of statement Chanel earrings. Billionaire Bezos’ future wife can even enter Blue Origin’s New Shepard reusable rocket testing area.
