Photos from the Chelsea first team training sessions over the past few days have revealed an interesting youngster being present in the activities.
The 5th Stand app has shown Josh Acheampong working with some of the superstars of the Blues, potentially offering an option for the matchday squad for manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Acheampong is a natural right-back, who has plenty of experience for both club and country at the youth levels.
He has made five appearances in the Premier League 2 this season, picking up an assist along the way.
Arguably the most notable moment of his youth career at Cobham has been the stunning long-range goal he scored last season against Tottenham.
Now though, he could be set for an unexpected leap up to the first team off the back of an injury crisis at Stamford Bridge.
Reece James was forced off in the first half of the 2-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend, with it immediately looking as if it could be another long period on the sidelines for the club captain.
Acheampong in training
It was soon reported that he would be missing at least three months, with at least one source already stating it could be much longer.
Malo Gusto has at least been spotted back in training, although after not being present in the last two games it is perhaps unlikely that he features in any form on Saturday against Sheffield United.
Marc Cucurella is also being monitored after being forced off with injury at Goodison Park, with him playing at right-back numerous times despite being very obviously left footed.
With him perhaps not available too, there is a massive chance for Acheampong to make his mark against Sheffield United, and potentially show why he should be involved in the first team setup a lot more in the coming weeks.
