Striker Kylian Mbappe believes that the 2022 World Cup brings more emotions to him than the 2018 World Cup.
In a long interview with Elise Lucet as Special Envoy, Kylian Mbappe spoke about the coronation of Les Blues at the World Cup in Russia. Accordingly, although he won the 2018 World Cup at the age of 19, the player born in 1998 believes that the 2022 World Cup is the tournament that brings him more emotions.
‘Maybe it’s incomprehensible, but when I won the 2018 World Cup I acted quite calm because I was so young at that time. I passed out during the celebrations because I drank too much, it didn’t do much for me. Winning makes me happy but I don’t realize what I’m winning. When I got home in the evening and finished the party, I didn’t celebrate too much.’ – Mbappe confided to Envoyé Special’s Elise Lucet .
Mbappe thinks that the 2022 tournament brings him emotions.
‘At the 2022 World Cup, I understand more clearly what I am representing, at least more than in 2018. This is really the first time I understand its importance. The other year was a World Cup that I didn’t have high expectations for but won quite smoothly, which didn’t create any particular emotions. 2022 is more emotional.”
In the most exciting tournament on the planet more than 5 years ago in Luzhniki, the French team defeated Croatia 4-2 in the final to win the championship. In fact, Les Bleus that year did not encounter too many difficulties, regularly defeating opponents in 90 minutes of official competition.
But the 2022 World Cup – the tournament where France only finished second after losing to Argentina in the final – brought more emotions to Mbappe. That is definitely not the feeling of only PSG players but also of many other fans. Mbappe played great when scoring a hat trick in the final match even though he could not help Les Bleus successfully defend the throne. This shows that the responsibility of the French captain at that time was much greater than when he was in his twenties.
