Ken Jennings says Emma Stone has to take the same Jeopardy test as everyone else: ‘That’s a hard show’

But, he adds, “we would take her in a heartbeat.”

Emma Stone won’t be getting any special treatment to chase her Jeopardy dreams.

After the Oscar-winning actress recently revealed that she’s dying to compete on the long-running quiz show, Jeopardy host Ken Jennings said they would love to have her, but she’ll have to keep trying like everybody else.

“Yeah, she says she wants to be on and she doesn’t want to be on [Celebrity Jeopardy],” Jennings said Monday during an appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark. “She wants to be on real, original-recipe Jeopardy. I mean, that’s a hard show.” As the audience laughed, he added, “We would take her in a heartbeat.”

When Kelly Ripa asked if Stone could be fast-tracked to the front of the contestant line, Jennings dashed those hopes.

“No, I think she would have to go through the same tests,” he said. “Our viewers can, if they want to be on the show, they can try out from home. You can take a test online and then do a Zoom audition. We no longer make people go to the mall or to a hotel to audition for the show.”

Should Stone make it onto the show, though, Jennings said she “might have a leg up.” After all, “She’s probably pretty good on camera.”

Mark Consuelos agreed: “The camera loves her.”

It sounds like Stone is already well acquainted with the Jeopardy tryout process. “I apply every June,” she said earlier this month on Variety‘s Awards Circuit podcast. Clarifying that she has no interest in Celebrity Jeopardy (which is known to have easier clues), she added, “I want to earn my stripes. You can only take the test once a year with your email address, and I’ve never gotten on the show.”

Despite striking out so far, Stone said she watches the show “every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right.”

For now, viewers who’d like to see Stone competing on a quiz show can catch her recent “Question Quest” sketch on Saturday Night Live, in which she destroyed the competition and won a lifelong commitment to caring for a tortoise.

Stone can also be seen on the big screen in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, and on TV in The Curse with Nathan Fielder.
