Xabi Alonso has raised his son to support Liverpool after he was born in the city.
Liverpool still runs deep in the veins of Alonso despite leaving Anfield 15 years ago when he joined Real Madrid. Alonso played 210 times for the Reds – winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup.
The Spaniard has three children with his wife Nagore Aranburu, their first born, a son in 2008 when Alonso was still at Liverpool. While his two younger daughters were born in 2010 and 2013, when he was at Real Madrid, Alonso previously said he would raise his son to support Liverpool.
“I am still a Liverpool fan and will be forever, absolutely,” Alonso said. “The things that I have lived and the experiences I had during those five years are deep in my heart and the passion and respect I had for the club and its supporters are still the same.
“Hopefully I can transmit to my son what Liverpool Football Club means and how special it is, as he was born in the city and he will visit it in the future.”

Alonso’s previous admissions will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans with him currently the favourite to take over from Jurgen Klopp next season. Klopp announced on Friday that he would be stepping down as Reds manager at the end of the season, and soon enough calls for Alonso to be named his successor were rife.

The 42-year-old began his management career with Real Madrid’s youth sides before taking charge at Real Sociedad B, who he played for before joining Liverpool in 2004. Alonso took up the reins at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022, leading them to a Europa League finish last season with them currently sat top of the Bundesliga unbeaten this season.
