Kylian Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain remains uncertain as we approach the end of the transfer window
Kylian Mbappe’s previous comments on Jurgen Klopp have resurfaced amid the decision of the Liverpool manager to step down from his post at the end of the season.
Klopp will walk away from Anfield at the end of May to take a break from football, ensuring whoever takes his place in the dugout will have enormous shoes to fill. Just what impact this will have on the Reds remains to be seen, with some of the opinion it will make things more challenging in the transfer market as Liverpool look to attract the best players to the club.
Mbappe is one name who continues to be linked with a move to Merseyside as his Paris Saint-Germain future remains up in the air, though Klopp’s departure likely makes a deal for the French forward all the more unlikely. The 2018 World Cup winner made clear his admiration for Liverpool and Klopp in particular when discussing their title-winning season during the 2019/20 season.
“What Liverpool do in this moment is amazing,” Mbappe told BBC Sport. “They’re like a machine, they’ve found a rhythm and are like ‘we play again, we play again’. They’ve lost zero games. When you watch you think everything’s easy but that’s not easy. The guys are focused, they play games every three days and they win, they win, they win.
“Now the problem is that everybody watches Liverpool, and everybody watches what we can do against them, so now they have to show they are strong again but it’s a very good team with a very good manager.”
Mbappe’s contract at PSG is set to expire this summer, making him a free agent and able to choose his next club, and there has been little indication the 25-year-old is any closer to agreeing a new deal in the French capital.
