One Piece: Oda Finally Settles The Yonko Vs Admirals Debate Forever

The Yonko stand on top in the One Piece world.

One Piece chapter 1108 dropped recently and it was certainly one of the most exciting additions to the Egghead Island arc that the fans have seen in quite a while. This week’s chapter was spectacular on many levels, and it certainly did push the series deeper into the Final Saga by setting up some major events that are to come in the next few installments.

Along with the major Egghead Incident that appears to be all set to happen in One Piece chapter 1109, Oda also delivered quite a lot of other interesting bits of information in One Piece chapter 1108, and, curiously, one of them pertained to the strength of the Marine Admirals compared to the Yonko. Fans have always known the Yonko and the Marine Admirals to be at odds with each other. This is true among the fans of the One Piece series, among which many believe that the Yonko are stronger, and then there is a section of the fans who also believe that the Admirals are equal to them. Of course, over the years, some fans have also been led to believe that the Admirals are actually stronger than the Yonko. However, over the course of the Egghead Island arc, Oda has been clarifying the power rankings in One Piece again and again, and with One Piece chapter 1108, he seems to have done it one more time.

Luffy vs Kizaru Round 1

It was clear for the fans to see right from the beginning of the major war on Egghead that the power of an Admiral would be put to the test against a Yonko. Of course, when Kizaru was sent to Egghead Island, it was clear for everyone to see that he would now be able to test his abilities against Luffy. Having recently been elected as a Yonko, fans knew that Luffy fighting against Kizaru would finally prove beyond all doubt who the stronger between the two is. Expectedly, Luffy faced Kizaru quite early into the arc, and these two engaged in a very intense fight.

Luffy first took to utilizing the power of Gear 4 Snakeman, however, it proved to not be enough to beat the Marine Admiral. As such, he relied on the power of Gear 5, and, as a result, this battle shifted in his favor. Luffy and Kizaru engaged in a long fight, where Kizaru was largely able to hold his own against the Yonko. However, at this point, Luffy was only stalling Kizaru, and, as a result, it was easy for the fans to see that the flow was being controlled by him. In fact, when this fight was going on, Luffy wasn’t even going all out, and he simply refused to utilize the powers of his Advanced Haki.

Luffy did not use his Observation Haki to see the future, or Armament Haki to deal internal damage, or even the Color of the Supreme King to deal deadly damage to Kizaru, at least for the most part. When the fight was about to be wrapped up, Luffy finally infused and attacked with the Color of the Supreme King, and he launched it with incredible ferocity at Kizaru’s head. This attack was incredibly powerful, and its effects so drastic that Kizaru collapsed and was unable to move for several minutes. After defeating the Admiral, Luffy ran out of steam as well, and had to consume quite a lot of food. In round one of Luffy versus Kizaru, it was clear for the fans to see that Luffy was the superior fighter.

Luffy Vs Kizaru Round 2

While Luffy defeated Kizaru in round one of the fighting, they engaged in battle shortly afterward once again. This time, Kizaru was about to execute Kuma and Bonney, and in the nick of time, Luffy, who had taken to Gear 5 once again, struck him. Once again, Kizaru was unable to react to Luffy’s tremendous strength. As the fight continued, Kizaru then shifted focus from Luffy to Sanji, given that he was not able to match Luffy in combat anymore. It was clear for the fans to see that Oda was pairing Luffy against Saturn, while Kizaru was being paired against Sanji. This was incredibly important for the fans to understand, simply because the opponent that Luffy usually is paired against is the stronger one, when it comes to the climax of major arcs.

That is how it has always been and that is how Oda will continue to write his stories. As such, it was quite clear for the fans to see that Saturn was the stronger one and, despite that, he was hardly able to match the Yonko in combat. What’s even more surprising is what came after, in One Piece chapter 1108, where Luffy decided to take a gigantic form in order to protect Vegapunk.

Luffy Takes on Both Saturn And Kizaru

Shortly after Kizaru struck Vegapunk right through his abdomen while he was trying to get away, Luffy saw what happened, and he decided to enter his gigantic form which he previously used in the fight against Kaido as well. This gigantic form saw Luffy grow to the point where he could easily grab Kizaru in the palm of his hand, and use the other hand to stop Saint Saturn. This just goes to show the incredible strength that Luffy possesses up his sleeve. For him, stopping two of these monstrously powerful individuals seems to be no big deal. In fact, despite holding two of these powerful individuals on his own, Luffy has made it clear that he is the one controlling the flow of the battle as he warned them that he’s not going to let either of them escape anymore.

While Saturn seems to be dealing better with Luffy’s power, Kizaru took quite heavy damage. In fact, the grip that Luffy utilized on him was so hard that he started coughing up blood and looked completely and utterly crushed in his palm. Kizaru, once again, showcased that he was not powerful enough to face Luffy in combat or stand up to him, despite being a Marine Admiral worth Three Crowns, which equate to 3 billion berries.

Clearly, Luffy and Kizaru have a gulf between them, in terms of strength. Kizaru is powerful, and there is absolutely no doubting that, however, he cannot compete with the Yonko at all. What’s even worse is that Luffy might not even be the strongest of the Four Emperors in One Piece right now. While he’s on the path to becoming the strongest, Luffy still has his own issues and he is yet to reach the pinnacle of his strength. This means that other Yonko, such as Shanks, are potentially even stronger and if Kizaru struggles this much against Luffy, there is absolutely no way that he can even hold his own against someone like Shanks. Clearly, the Admirals are far inferior to the Yonko in terms of strength, and Oda has completely settled this debate once and for all in Egghead.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1109, is set to be March 3, 2024.
