In response to the shout-out, actor Antony Starr said, “Cool to support a great artist.”
Hip-hop mega-producer Metro Boomin’s latest album, Heroes & Villains, arrived this Friday. It features one of the most well-known TV “heroes” and secret villains.
The opening song on the album, “On Time,” with John Legend, has a snippet of “The Only Man in the Sky,” which is a speech given by Homelander played by Antony Starr in The Boys season 3, episode 2.
The series culminates with the Seven’s leader yelling to a throng of people from a platform during a Vought gathering.
“I am done apologizing! I am done being persecuted for my strength!” he exclaims. “You people should be thanking Christ that I am who and what I am because you need me. You need me to save you.”
In addition, Morgan Freeman lends his voice to the tune. Freeman previously narrated a short film that hinted about the album. “You know what they say: If Young Metro don’t trust you, motherf—er, you better run,” he continues.
Starr responded to the sampling in a post on Instagram. “Look there where a certain speech from a certain chap popped upโฆ Cool to support a great artist,” he wrote.
.
Metro Boomin also released a new music video Friday for the album’s cut “Superhero,” featuring Future.
“Drinking dope turned me to a superhero, yeah, yeah,” Future spits. “Hit that pill, turned me to a superhero, yeah, yeah / Boominati turned me to a superhero, yeah, yeah.”
Later in the track comes a Jay-Z sample from the 2010 song “So Appalled”: “Dark Knight feeling, die and be a hero / Or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.”
Heroes & Villainsย is Metro’s first LP in four years. Other artists featured include Don Toliver, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Young Nudy, Young Thug, Mustafa, A$AP Rocky, Gunna, and the late rapper Takeoff.
