Rebekah Vardy is dealt another blow following her Wagatha Christie legal defeat as she takes aim at Coleen Rooney during her I’m A Celeb stint

Rebekah Vardy has been hit by another blow after her Wagatha Christie legal defeat.

The WAG, 42, had hoped to cash in the courtroom drama by trademarking the name coined during her epic battle with Coleen Rooney, who is currently starring on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

But MailOnline can reveal that Rebekah has now lost a challenge from upmarket linen firm Christy which has blocked her from flogging Wagatha Christie-themed towels and sheets.

The company filed papers two years ago with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office opposing the application from Rebekah’s team.

They said the names were too similar and her enterprise could harm the firm’s existing Christy trademark if she began selling towels and bed linen using the Wagatha Christie brand.

Now, Rebekah’s application has taken out all reference to towels and bed linen in an updated filing at the IPO.

Both sides produced evidence about the potential clash and trademark lawyers at the government department ruled in favour of the claims of Wellspun UK – makers of the pricey Christy brand.

Trademark clashes can end up in the High Court in London – scene of Rebekah and Coleen Rooney’s libel fight – if agreements cannot be reached.

Last year it was revealed that Rebekah was still to pay Coleen’s almost £2 million legal bills for the case after she sued the WAG for libel after her rival claimed she was selling stories about her and her family to the media.

The star registered the phrase for trademark in the UK in August 2022 through the company London Entertainment Inc Ltd which made two applications on her behalf.

One that covers a range of uses from broadcasting to beauty lotions, as well as non-alcoholic drinks, jewellery, stationery and fashion design was passed, but the second, separate application was challenged by Wellspun.

On Monday, Coleen spoke about her trial for the first time on I’m A Celebrity despite rival Rebekah ‘vowing to call in the lawyers’ if Coleen mentioned the trial in the jungle.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were quick to poke fun at her recent legal battle with Rebekah, joking early in the launch show on Sunday that there would be ‘plenty more’ to come.

Coleen insisted the trial ‘wasn’t a joke to her’ as she confided in her campmates GK Barry, Jane Moore and Dean McCullough.

Wagatha Christie is the popular name given to Coleen and Rebekah’s £1.8 million court case, which culminated in 2022.

It began when Coleen put a widely shared post on Instagram which accused Rebekah of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the press.

Rebekah denied the allegations and sued Coleen for libel, but the case – dubbed the Wagatha Christie trial – fell in Coleen’s favour, and left Rebekah liable to pay £1.5 million towards Coleen’s legal fees.

As the four sat around the creek getting to know one another, Dean took the opportunity once again to bring up the notorious case.

He said: ‘Can you imagine if Princess Diana would have done a Wagatha Christie!’

Jane told Coleen: ‘That was epic though what you did!’

Asked by GK if she was scared of posting it [the post which accused Rebekah of leaking stories], Coleen insisted she wasn’t.

She said: ‘No because I just didn’t think it would have the impact it did, because I was just that sick and tired of it, it was draining.

‘It was the fact that it carried on and carried on, that was my worst nightmare for it to go to court. She took me to court. I felt ashamed going to court because I’m not the type to play things out in public.

‘That was my worst nightmare to go to court. I felt like it was like putting on a show for the whole world.’

Coleen added: ‘I just felt like it was putting on a show for the whole world. I didn’t want that, I wanted to settle it before and get it done with.’

‘What got me, over the whole thing, was it became a bit of a joke and that’s really disappointing, it wasn’t a joke for me.

‘People were saying that it was just two schoolgirls but no one knew the full story.’

Just last month, Rebekah was ordered to pay £100,000 of the money she owes.

Rebekah is on high alert and is also keen to remind ITV bosses and the show’s hosts, Ant and Dec that she owns the trademark to the phrase Wagatha Christie.

A source told the publication: ‘Becky was absolutely agog to hear Coleen was doing I’m A Celeb and fears a whole new round of allegations about their WAG war.’

‘What’s more, she knows Ant and Dec will make her the brunt of their jokes and be desperate to jump on the Wagatha Christie phrase.’

‘A very close eye will be kept on everything ITV air.’
