Shocking moment floodwaters gush down streets of market town as emergency service crews urge locals to ‘get back’: Death toll for Storm Bert rises to four

This is the shocking moment a town centre flooded after a brook rose and caused a wall to collapse amid Storm Bert.

The middle of Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, was seen submerged in water after the nearby Kyre Brook filled up and caused chaos.

Rescue workers in the town can be heard urging people to ‘get back’ as the floods dramatically spread.

Earlier, footage taken in the town showed a tractor driver sending a ‘wave of floodwater’ crashing through shop windows.

Locals were left livid and labelled the inconsiderate driver a ‘t***er’ for causing a torrent of brown water to drench businesses in the town.

Owners had valiantly fought to keep the waters out of their shops but saw their hard work wiped out in an instant with one person saying he had ‘bankrupted Tenbury’.

The town was left submerged earlier today when the nearby brook overflowed amid Storm Bert which has devastated large parts of Britain.

The clip shows a green tractor come speeding around a corner and motor down the middle of the town centre.

It causes wave after wave of filthy floodwater to smash up against the buildings, reportedly causing doors and windows to break, but the driver appears to show no care as the farm vehicle continues to bounce along the street.

At one point the tractor starts to slow down outside a shop causing the water to slosh over the front of the building.

Locals have reacted with fury after it was posted on Facebook, with Chloe Mcintosh saying: ‘Thank you to the c*** who’s drove [sic] through Tenbury in a tractor a million miles an hour. Everyone’s life work, gone.

‘We all managed to keep the water out of the shops etc, he’s driven through, smashed all the windows and doors and bankrupted Tenbury.’

Retired Environment Agency area manager Dave Throup shared the footage on X and called the driver an ‘absolute t***er’.

‘Sends a 6ft bow wave through Tenbury shop windows,’ he said.

‘Locals understandably livid!’

Kirsty Marie said the driver had shown ‘no care or consideration for the local small businesses already after the Kyre Brook “flood defence” wall collapsed’.

MailOnline has contacted West Mercia Police comment.

The town descended into panic when the Kyre Brook rose and damaged a wall as shouts of ‘get back’ were heard as the floodwater rushed through the streets.

It comes amid Storm Bert plunging parts of Britain into flooding chaos, with four people being killed.

For a second successive day, 70mph gusts and thundery showers have ripped through the country, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.

Officials in South Wales declared a major incident due to river flooding – as the body of 75-year-old Brian Perry was found after he went missing in the bulging River Conwy on Saturday.

Mr Perry is the fourth victim of the killer storm, after yesterday’s extreme weather saw thousands of homes left without power and three motorists killed in fatal traffic incidents.

In Devon, a huge search and rescue mission is also currently underway after there were reports of a person floating in the River Sid during the storm.

Today’s torrential downpours and high-speed gales also forced the Royal Parks to close all nine of its sites in London – including Kensington Parks, Primrose Hill and Hyde Park.

The latter venue was currently hosting the Winter Wonderland event, but bosses confirmed the Christmas extravaganza would not go ahead today due to ‘the inclement weather conditions’.

People’s travel plans have also been left in tatters, as no trains are running between Paddington and Cornwall because of the flooding, with severe delays found across all lines.
