Fellow defender Shaw played the entirety of the first half but did not emerge for the second, having suffered a suspected hamstring injury. United went on to lose 1-0 and crashed out of Europe.

Asked for an early assessment of the injuries the two United stars suffered, Ten Hag admitted it is too soon to make a prediction. He said: “We have to wait 24 hours. And then a assessment and diagnosis. So we have to wait for it.”
