What If…? season 2 gives Marvel characters the chance to live out their dreams, and one hero is capitalizing on one of his darkest obsessions.
One MCU hero is about to fulfill their darkest desires in an exciting way in the upcoming What If…? season 2. Rocket Raccoon has an odd fixation on stealing people’s limbs, whether it’s helpful on a mission or if he just thinks it looks cool. In Guardians of the Galaxy, he asks for someone’s prosthetic leg during the jailbreak, and in Avengers: Infinity War, he tries to get Bucky Barnes’ arm during battle. His obsession with body parts does create plenty of hilarious scenarios, but there is a tragic connection between this fixation and his past.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reveals that his limb obsession comes from the traumatic experience he had with the High Evolutionary and the friends he met there. However, Rocket has always been a character who has made the most of every situation thanks to his intelligence and resourcefulness. Now, he is finally capitalizing on his fascination with body parts in an upcoming episode of What If…? season 2.
Rocket Raccoon’s Weird Prosthesis Obsession Is Getting A Cool Pay-Off
What If…? explores alternate realities where many heroes and villains are given amazing payoffs that would have drastically changed their journey in the main MCU. Rocket Raccoon has been desperately trying to collect body parts, whether it’s prosthetic arms and legs or fake eyes. The latest trailer for What If…? gives a small glimpse at Rocket’s new appearance, which appears to be the crafty mammal living out his wildest fantasies.
The trailer shows Rocket in a large suit that looks like a mech suit made out of various prosthetic parts. The suit features a large robotic arm, prosthetic legs, and a massive cannon positioned on his back. Rocket has built the ultimate weapon made out of his favorite things. It’s unclear if he stole these limbs or if he built the suit himself, but it looks like he is having a blast, literally and figuratively. The trailer is Christmas themed, which makes sense as it looks like Christmas came early for him.
Why Rocket Was Always Obsessed With Prosthetics
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 featured flashbacks to Rocket’s past where he and his friends were tortured and experimented on by the High Evolutionary. His friends, Floor, Lylla, and Teefs, were all given prosthetic limbs, which could explain why Rocket has a connection to the fake parts. Despite hating the High Evolutionary, he has a similar fascination with the “improvements” given to other creatures, and he knows the upgrades that some of these fake limbs can bring.
In I Am Groot, there is a scene showing Rocket’s body part collection, proving that he does keep his obsession going, even when it’s not shown on screen. Perhaps he’ll use this collection to build the mech suit that’s shown in What If…? Hopefully, Rocket keeps this dark but comedic fixation going, even if he has received some closure now.
