A Venom trilogy set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has been confirmed since the first movie was released in 2018, with Tom Hardy attached to star.
However, Venom 3 was officially announced at CinemaCon 2022. Specific details about Venom 3 only came out a few months later, when Tom Hardy confirmed Venom 3 was in pre-production on an Instagram post.
Venom 3’s release date was then confirmed to be July 11, 2024, but shifts in Sony’s schedule and delays from the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes will likely push the movie back at least a few months.Joining Tom Hardy are actors Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the latter of which already appeared in the MCU as Doctor Strange’s enemy Karl Mordo — though Ejiofor is likely to be playing a new character in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s cliffhanger showed Stephen Graham’s Patrick Mulligan seemingly absorbing a symbiote, which suggests he will appear in Venom 3, if not as the main villain, then at least in a supporting role. Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis won’t be returning for Venom 3. Instead, Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage writer Kelly Marcel will be making her directorial debut in the sequel.
