Pint-sized pop star Ariana Grande will headline St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center March 1.
Tickets are priced from $69.50 to $29.50 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 through Ticketmaster.
The 21-year-old got her first big break playing a cheerleader in the Broadway musical “13,” which led to a role on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious.” Grande landed a record deal after an executive saw her covering Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey songs on YouTube.
Grande’s debut album, “Yours Truly,” found instant success after it hit stores last summer, bolstered by the triple-platinum hit single “The Way.” She followed it up last month with “My Everything,” which produced another smash in “Problem.” The album’s second single, “Break Free,” joined “Problem” in the Top 10, as did “Bang Bang,” a Jessie J single featuring Grande and Nicki Minaj. That made Grande the second female artist ever, after Adele, to enjoy three songs in the Top 10 at the same time.
Fellow pop stars like Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga have praised Grande for her singing skills, with Katy Perry telling a Sirius XM DJ that Grande has “the best female (voice) in pop music today.” Grande has also earned plenty of network television prime time exposure this summer, as her older brother Frankie is competing on CBS’ “Big Brother.”
The concert will mark Grande’s second time playing the X, following last December’s KDWB Jingle Ball. She’ll be the fourth of that show’s eight acts to follow the Jingle Ball with a local arena gig, after Miley Cyrus, Austin Mahone and Fall Out Boy.
