Sources from Daily Star revealed that goalkeeper Andre Onana almost returned to Man United soon.
Andre Onana traveled more than 8,000 km from Manchester to Ivory Coast but played a backup role for Fabrice Ondoa. In the important match Cameroon won 3-2 against Gambia, the 27-year-old goalkeeper continued to be pushed to the bench. According to Goal, Onana gradually became dissatisfied and felt angry.
Onana even got angry with the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o. He came to meet and blamed President Eto’o for not intervening in coach Rigobert Song’s decision to select the squad in the match against Gambia on January 24.
Onana did not have a starting position despite having to travel long distances to join the Cameroon team.
Notably, according to Daily Star, Onana considered withdrawing from the Cameroon team before putting personal differences with Eto’o aside.
The report added that Onana is expected to remain on the bench when the “Indomitable Lions” face Nigeria in the round of 16.
Onana just started one match at CAN Cup 2023 in a 1-3 loss to Senegal. The goalkeeper born in 1996 was a substitute in Cameroon’s 1-1 draw with Guinea and 3-2 win over Gambia.
