Nathan Ake ends astonishing Man City record at Tottenham as VAR decision sends Spurs out of FA Cup

Nathan Ake’s goal was enough to knock Tottenham out of the FA Cup and send Manchester City after a controversial VAR moment.

Ake became the first City player to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – it being the sixth time that they have played there.

Nathan Ake scored the only goal of the game to end City’s hoodoo

And he picked the right time to score as well, grabbing a late winner in north London to see them through to the next round of the FA Cup.

However, Tottenham were left furious with VAR after Guglielmo Vicario felt he was fouled by Ruben Dias from a corner.

The Portugal international jumped alongside the Spurs goalkeeper but was beaten to the ball.

As the Italian hit the deck, Ake was quickest to react to stab the ball into the net as Tottenham players fumed.

Remarkably, that was City’s 101st chance against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – finally scoring and ending an incredible hoodoo.

Moments before, Kevin de Bruyne missed a glorious chance to put City ahead after a moment of madness from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Denmark international lost the ball near his own goal with it finding its way to De Bruyne’s feet only for him to lash it wide.

City are looking to reclaim the FA Cup crown they won last year after beating Manchester United in the final.

But it is a miserable moment for Tottenham, who will now go another year without a trophy – barring a miracle in the Premier League.

In truth, Spurs looked torrid going forward and managed just one shot all game.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou confirms James Maddison is back from his long term injury

A front three of Richarlison, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner failed to threaten Ederson in goal while City’s defence mopped up with ease.

City, meanwhile, had 18 shots but had to wait until the 88th minute before they got one in the net.

At the sixth time of asking, the treble-winners have finally ended their nightmare run at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
