The Boys’ Jack Quaid is set to star alongside Predator spinoff Prey star Amber Midthunder in a new action thriller that might launch a new franchise.
The Boys‘ breakout star Jack Quaid has been announced to star alongside actress Amber Midthunder in the upcoming action thriller Novocaine from Paramount.
According to Deadline, production is set to begin this April in South Africa and will be directed by Robert Olsen and Dan Berk. The director duo previously helmed Villains, which starred John Wick 4 actor Bill Skarsgård. Novocaine is being distributed by Paramount, and it is the first release from the FilmNation Entertainment production Infrared. Producers on the film include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, and Drew Simon for Infrared Pictures.
What Is This New Movie Novocaine About?
Jack Quaid is said to be playing a sheltered bank executive named Nathan Caine, who has a rare genetic condition that prevents him from feeling physical pain when he is enduring it. When his bank is robbed and one of his co-workers kidnapped, he has to act and finds his greatest liability becomes his greatest strength. The film’s high concept nature has been compared to the spirit of iconic actions films like the Die Hard and John Wick franchises. As such, the Paramount film is reportedly being eyed as a potential franchise-starter.
Quaid is most known for playing the popular character of Hughie Campbell throughout four seasons of the Amazon Studios hit series The Boys. The fourth season of the show is set to premiere on the streamer sometime in 2024. The actor recently notably appeared in the box office smash and Academy Award-nominated Oppenheimer, directed by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. He also lent his voice talents to Sony/Marvel’s animated hit film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and as Superman in DC’s animated My Adventures with Superman series. Quaid will next be seen in Nowhere Men, with The Watchmen‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman.
Amber Midthunder became an instant sensation among fans everywhere after her starring role in the action-packed Predator franchise spin-off Prey, which was released on Hulu. Per 20th Century Studios, Prey was the most-watched premiere across all films and television series on the streamer within the United States. A sequel to that film has been rumored to be in development. Meanwhile, Midthunder is soon set to be seen as the popular character of Princess Yue in the highly anticipated Netflix live-action adaptation of the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. That show is set to premiere later this month, on Feb. 22, 2024.
