The New York Jets have finally granted a longtime wish of their fanbase.

Jets owner Woody Johnson announced on Sunday that the team will unveil new uniforms for the 2024 season in April. Johnson confirmed in the social media video that the Legacy White uniform that debuted this past season will become permanent and will be joined by green and black versions.

The Jets wore their Legacy jerseys in two games this season, first in the season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills and then in a Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The jerseys are a throwback to the 1980s New York Sack Exchange squads.

The Legacy jerseys will replace the “Gotham Green” look that the Jets debuted in 2019. Those uniforms will be synonymous with one of the worst stretches in franchise history, as the team went a combined 27-56 in five years and never finished with a record above .500 during the uniforms’ existence.

The Jets are hoping the new look will lead to some new results, as their 13-year playoff drought is the longest in all four major North American sports. After going 7-10 in 2023, New York will have the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Jets are certainly hoping to improve their talent on offense around star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will be back after missing virtually the entire 2023 season with a torn Achilles. New York has multiple holes to fill in its offensive line and receiving corps, so it will be interesting to see the team’s approach to the offseason.

The new uniforms are a step in the right direction for a Jets fanbase that has been starving for any amount of positivity it can get.
