MCU Daredevil Introduction Sets Up The Perfect Excuse To Use A Forgotten 35-Year-Old Marvel Movie Story

A 35-year-old Marvel movie may hold the perfect story for the MCU to retell as it introduces Daredevil into the fold and has him meet other heroes.

A story told by a 35-year-old Marvel movie could comprise the perfect story for Daredevil’s MCU introduction in Daredevil: Born Again to reimagine. After the original series’ MCU canonicity was stuck in limbo for several years, Charlie Cox’s version of Matt Murdock is confirmed to be joining the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again. Since being confirmed, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the show that will reportedly reintroduce several fan-favorite Daredevil characters like Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, and Punisher, to name a few.

The show will also navigate the Man Without Fear’s arrival into the official MCU timeline, and his inevitable interactions with long-established characters. Given that he has already interacted with Peter Parker, and also featured in She-Hulk’s MCU debut series, the list of New York City-based characters with whom he can interact grows shorter. There is, however, another character with whom Daredevil has a history in another, much older Marvel movie franchise that has made a huge impact on the genre.

Daredevil & Hulk Had A 1989 Movie Together That Would Work Well For The MCU

The Incredible Hulk TV series debuted in 1978 and became one of Marvel’s most successful on-screen adaptations before the superhero genre took the world by storm a couple of decades later. The franchise starred Lou Ferrigno in the titular role, who would later go on to cameo in other Marvel productions, and led to several spin-off movies throughout the 1980s. These movies were attempts at backdoor pilots designed to springboard another character into having their own TV show or movie – and The Trial of the Incredible Hulk was no exception.

The Trial of the Incredible Hulk was a straight-to-TV movie starring Ferrigno’s version of the Jade Giant, which introduced Rex Smith’s Daredevil. Murdock appears as David Banner’s lawyer after Hulk was framed for an attack committed by Wilson Fisk. The two would later team up – with Murdock embodying his superhero alias – to bring Fisk and his criminal enterprise down before ending the movie as friends. Beyond being a street-level outing that would be a breath of fresh air for the MCU’s Bruce Banner, the MCU’s Matt Murdock already has a track record of defending MCU stars.

Why Daredevil & Hulk Would Be A Perfect Movie Or Show Duo

The MCU has already proven how well Matt Murdock can gel with other superheroes, given the sticky legal situations they can find themselves in. For Spider-Man, Matt Murdock became his defense lawyer after he was wrongfully accused of having killed Quentin Beck, AKA Mysterio. Their scenes together in Spider-Man: No Way Home comprised a particularly heartwarming interaction between two beloved characters, partly because they are both so incredibly likable; and the same can be said of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner.

When it comes to superhero mishaps, there are none quite so susceptible as Bruce Banner and Hulk. Although Banner, in his Smart Hulk persona, is currently in the good graces of the MCU’s public after having Blipped everyone back into existence, there may be some lingering repercussions of his more destructive past that Daredevil can help iron out. Daredevil’s romance with Bruce’s cousin, Jennifer, would also add an entertaining layer to their relationship. Even if only to pay tribute to the legacy of Ferrigno’s tenure, it would be satisfying to see the two interact in Daredevil: Born Again.
