Ranking All 10 Actors Who Have Played Loki In The MCU

Loki’s shapeshifting abilities and many variants mean a number of different actors have gotten a chance to play the God of Mischief in the MCU.

Appearing most recently in the Loki TV show, the God of Mischief is a unique character in the MCU, because he has been played by more different actors than anyone else. This isn’t due to recasts like Hulk or War Machine, but because Loki has the unique ability to shapeshift into other characters. The Loki show cast also includes a number of variants that have appeared who are played by actors besides Tom Hiddleston. This has created an opportunity for other actors to take on the role for a short period of time.

There are various actors who played Loki variants in Loki season 1, episode 5, “Journey Into Mystery” who were not credited in the roles. These actors deserve acknowledgment for their work as extras, but they will not appear on the list proper due to being uncredited.

When other MCUactors temporarily replace Tom Hiddleston’s Loki via shapeshifting, it gives them a chance to capture that character’s personality in a unique way. Conversely, Loki variant actors have a bit more freedom to make the character their own, since they may come from a universe wildly different from the main MCU. Each Loki actor brings something different to the table, which helps keep Loki one of the most dynamic characters in the MCU.

Loki Season 2 Ending Explained

Loki season 2’s finale is massive for the MCU as well as for the God of Mischief who’s found his ultimate glorious purpose while saving the TVA.10 Alligator Loki Played By Wally

Wally Is Cute But Didn’t Really Do Any Acting

Wally is an emotional support alligator who played Alligator Loki in Loki season 1, episode 5. Wally isn’t ever actually on screen in Loki, but instead was simply used as a reference by Marvel’s visual effects artists to create Alligator Loki. Alligator Loki was a very popular part of Loki season 1, thanks in part to how cute Wally is. Although he didn’t do any real acting, Wally deserves credit for helping bring Alligator Loki to life, which places him at the bottom of the ranking.

9 Einherjar Guard Played By Brett Tucker

This Loki Actor Wasn’t Supposed To Act Like Loki

Brett Tucker very briefly got to portray Loki in Thor: The Dark World. After Thor breaks Loki loose from prison, Loki does some shapeshifting, partially to blend in but mostly to mess with Thor. The first person he turns into is a member of Asgard’s Einherjar Guard, who is played by Tucker. Though there is nothing noticeably wrong with Tucker’s portrayal, it only lasts a few seconds, and he has very few lines of dialogue. These lines were also very subdued and didn’t allow Tucker to show off much of Loki’s personality.

Later, Loki takes the form of the guard again, this time reporting to Odin about his own death. In the scene, Loki is staying undercover, meaning he doesn’t act like himself. This means Tucker didn’t have a chance to really try and act like Loki, instead just acting like the guard would normally. Save for a suspicious look to help tip off the audience to the deceit, Tucker’s Loki portrayaldidn’t get a lot of opportunities to fully capture the God of Mischief.

8 Kid Loki Played By Jack Veal

Kid Loki Had A Good, But Limited Role

Young actor Jack Veal did a good job portraying Kid Loki, he just unfortunately wasn’t given much to work with. In his introductory scene in Loki season 1, episode 5, he is intentionally made to seem like a pretty normal kid. This helps sell the surprise that this Loki variant killed Thor, but it does rob Veal of a chance to show off his acting chops. Kid Loki also getssaddled with some dry expository dialogue, something else that makes it harder to fully appreciate his turn as Loki.

7 Young Sylvie Played By Cailey Fleming

Young Sylvie Sets The Stage For Her Adult Self

In Loki season 1, episode 4, there is a flashback to when Sylvie was taken by the TVA as a child. Young Sylvie is played by Cailey Fleming, who does a good job with the little screen time given to her. Fleminggets to play a good range of emotions, from playing happily with toys, to screaming and fighting back against TVA members. Fleming also does a solid job of nonverbal acting when she steals a TVA device and escapes, managing to capture Sylvie’s rage at the TVA for taking her from her home.

Playing Sylvie was not the first time Fleming got to play the younger version of a famous character, since she also played young Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

6 Boastful Loki Played By Deobia Oparel

Boastful Loki Was A Funny Side Character

Deobia Oparel plays a variant of Loki in Loki season 1, episode 5. This variant is officially known as Boastful Loki, and it is a fitting name. This Loki variant carries a hammer like Thor’s, dresses like a Viking warrior, and claims to have assembled the Infinity Stones after defeating Iron Man and Captain America. Oparelhas perfect comedic timing and sells this Loki’s unique form of arrogance. He also does a good job convincingly wrestling with Alligator Loki when attacked, which can be difficult when working with a fully CGI character.

5 Classic Loki Played By Richard E. Grant

Classic Loki Gave An Emotional Performance

Classic Loki is another of the many variants from Loki season 1, episode 5. Similar to Deobia Oparel, Richard E. Grant has great comedic timing in the role, delivering some excellent deadpan lines. He also does a great job selling some complicated exposition that can sometimes be difficult not to make boring. What gave Grant’s performance a slight edge over the other Loki variants was that hebrought a lot of emotion to the role. Classic Loki’s sacrifice ends up being incredibly moving for a character who appeared in just one episode.

4 Loki As Odin Played By Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins Had Fun As Loki

Anthony Hopkins got to play Loki for a few scenes in the MCU. First was a post-credits teaser after Thor: The Dark World, which revealed Loki was alive and posing as Odin. Next, audiences got to see Hopkins playing Loki in Thor: Ragnarok after he had taken over Asgard in Odin’s form and reshaped it to his liking. It was incredibly fun to see Loki as Odin lounging and enjoying the self-aggrandizing play that he wrote, and Hopkins’ performance was essential to the joke. Though Hopkins showed some signs of Loki’s personality in Ragnarok, he never really got to go full Loki since he had to maintain his disguise.

3 Loki As Captain America Played By Chris Evans

Chris Evans Went All Out As Loki

Loki turning into Captain America is one of the most memorable moments from Thor: The Dark World. It helps that Chris Evans absolutely nailed Loki’s arrogance and sarcasm. Because Evans was always so earnest as Captain America, it was a lot of fun to watch him cut loose and play a cocky jerk more akin to his version of Johnny Storm than Steve Rogers. Evans also does a great physical performance, mimicking Tom Hiddleston’s walk and mannerisms as Loki so well, it can be easy to forget a whole different actor is playing the God of Mischief.

2 Sylvie Played By Sophia Di Martino

Sylvie Stood Out As Her Own Character

Sophia Di Martino co-starred in Loki as Sylvie, a female variant of Loki from another timeline. Di Martino gave Sylvie some classic Loki traits like charm and quick wit, but also added enough to make the character feel distinct from Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal. For example, Sylvie has a lot more righteous anger than Loki, something Di Martino does a great job communicating through her expressions and tone. Sylvievery much feels like her own character, not just an impression of another one, and a lot of that is thanks to Di Martino’s work in the role, which makes her the second best Loki actor in the MCU.

1 Loki Played By Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston Is The Definitive Loki

It’s hard to beat Tom Hiddleston as Loki, considering he’s gone on such a major journey with the character from the first Thor movie in 2011 all the way through Loki season 2 in 2023. Hiddleston has played Loki as a scheming villain, a grieving son, and even a surprising hero. He manages to bring so much life to the character that even in a weaker movie like Thor: The Dark World, Loki’s scenes with Thor are genuinely moving. Hiddleston has made the character feel so fully-realized that Lokioften feels like the most real person in the MCU, despite his magical powers. That makes Hiddleston the best Loki actor in the MCU
