Leading the pack is a quarter-size recreation of Lewis Hamilton’s iconic Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car, a marvel that pays homage to the historic moment when Hamilton surpassed Michael Schumacher’s record to become the most successful driver in Formula 1 history at the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix.
Crafted over three years with unparalleled attention to detail, the W11 epitomizes Mercedes-AMG’s pursuit of perfection, particularly in addressing long-standing issues with cornering. And triumph it did. Driven by Hamilton during the Covid-19-shortened 2020 F1 season, the W11 secured an impressive 11 first-place finishes, contributing to Mercedes’ Constructors Championship victory and Hamilton’s record-tying seventh Drivers’ Championship. Notably, the car set the fastest pole position lap in history at the Italian Grand Prix, a record likely to endure given recent rule changes.
Amalgam Collection’s dedication to authenticity shines through in the W11 model. While the company’s previous offerings typically range from 1:8 to 1:12 scale, the W11 stands at an impressive 1:4 scale, measuring 49 inches from nose to rear wing. Featuring thousands of intricately machined parts and an impeccably detailed Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team livery, this model is a true work of art. Leveraging CAD designs from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, Amalgam spent a staggering 4,500 hours perfecting the model, with each car requiring an additional 450 hours for construction.
Such craftsmanship comes with a price tag befitting its excellence. Priced at $34,943, the quarter-size W11 race car will soon be available through the Amalgam website. However, with only seven examples slated for production at the company’s Bristol, UK, workshop, interested buyers are urged to act swiftly. Nevertheless, it’s a more accessible option compared to acquiring an actual Hamilton-driven F1 car.
