And following a successful rehabilitation process, the Irishman has pleaded with the UFC to get his return date arranged.
At one point, it looked as though all hope was lost with McGregor and UFC president Dana White seemingly at loggerheads.
But that all changed when McGregor spoke out to suggest a deal was at last over the line.
White has remained largely radio silent on the subject – until now.
He uploaded a clip onto his Instagram story which showed McGregor strutting in video with the caption: “Coming soon.”
McGregor, 35, snapped his leg in the opening round of his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier.
But he last year coached against Michael Chandler, 37, in the reality series The Ultimate Fighter to build towards a bout.
But 2023 passed with no sign of a fight date and McGregor instead aimed for the historic UFC 300 card on April 13.
After that was pushed back, he brazenly announced he would fight Chandler on June 29 at the 185lb MIDDLEWEIGHT limit.
This was later shut down by White, causing fear that the fight would NEVER happen.5
But, while promoting the release of his acting debut in a reboot of Road House, McGregor shared the good news fans have waited for.
He told ESPN: “We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go at the Mac, The Notorious will be returning in the UFC octagon this summer.”
On specifics of the fight, including the weight, he said: “I was having a bit of a laugh with the 185.
“I don’t know, I haven’t checked the scales since the last time I weighed in at a UFC event which was a fair bit of time ago.
“But I’ll have a chat and see where I’m at. But I got great news, it’s all systems go, thumbs up, thumbs up, got the call everything’s sweet.”
