One Piece: The Makings Of A True Conqueror, Explained

Conqueror Haki is not an ability granted to anyone in One Piece.

In the One Piece World, Oda has made sure to introduce a plethora of powers over the years, and one of the most significant ones is certainly Conqueror’s Haki. As is implied by the name itself, Conqueror’s Haki is an ability that is present within the conquerors of the One Piece world. These are powerful individuals who can define an era itself, and they are blessed with the power that not everyone possesses.

Those blessed with Conqueror’s Haki are destined for great things, and a select few of the conquerors can even reach the very pinnacle of strength using this power. That said, not everyone has access to this ability, and only a handful can even be qualified to utilize this power.

The Importance Of Conqueror’s Haki

Why Conqueror’s Haki Matters In One Piece

Conqueror’s Haki is a very important power in the One Piece World. The true strength of this power wasn’t revealed to the fans until recently. However, Oda always hinted at this ability being incredibly special. For instance, even during the Marineford days, when all Conqueror’s Haki could do was knock out weak opponents, the entirety of Marines and World Government individuals were scared of Luffy utilizing this power and wanted to eliminate him due to the potential that he possessed because of it. It was always clear from the get-go that Conqueror’s Haki was an ability to be feared. As Luffy utilized this ability and started growing in terms of it, this became more clear.

Conqueror’s Haki essentially allows one to impose their willpower on others in their surroundings. This is essentially a battle of willpower, where the one with the stronger willpower is able to assert dominance over others. Those who do not possess the makings of a King and are weak simply get knocked out due to Conqueror’s Haki. Those who possess Conqueror’s Haki of their own or simply those who possess strong willpower are able to resist this ability in its basic form. Highly qualified users of Conqueror’s Haki can choose who then knock out with their power, and who they can spare, and while that certainly does show incredible usage of this ability, the truth use it usage of this power allows one to infuse it in their bodies and reach an entirely new level of strength.

This was first revealed to the fans during the Wano Country Arc, where Kaido showcased the infusion of this power and knocked Luffy out with a single hit of his club, Hassaikai. Later on, Luffy picked up this skill as well, and he did incredibly well with it, finally managing to match Kaido, and eventually, with the boost of Gear 5, going on to defeat him. Clearly, it was evident for the fans to see that Conqueror’s Haki was truly a game-changer in the One Piece World. Only a handful of the strongest can utilize the advanced infusion of Conqueror’s Haki, and those who do are destined for greatness. Kaido even went on to say that Conqueror’s Haki is the most important ability to exist in the One Piece world simply because Roger was able to bring the whole world to heal with it. Of course, that was Kaido’s opinion, however, one cannot deny the fact that Conqueror’s Haki is an exceptionally important power in One Piece.

The Ones Chosen By The Heavens

Not Everyone Can Utilize Conqueror’s Haki

Now that it is clear what Conqueror’s Haki is, fans might wonder as to who can have Conqueror’s Haki. The truth is that Conqueror’s Haki cannot be utilized by everyone in the One Piece world. This is an ability that only one in a million people can utilize, and in that sense, this ability is somewhat unfair.

Doflamingo…you have been chosen by the heavens!! – Trebol

Only those who are born with this ability can utilize it. Essentially, it is at birth that an individual gets this ability. Either one is born with it, or they are not. In that regard, being a conqueror or not does not really matter. What matters is if the person is chosen by the heavens or not.

Thus, destiny essentially plays a massive role in an individual having Conqueror’s Haki, and that is the most basic thing about this ability that fans should remember. Only those who are chosen by the heavens go on to later awaken this power and then wield their conqueror spirit in different ways.

The Importance Of A Bloodline

Blood Ties To Conquerors Matter When It Comes To Conqueror’s Haki

Just as being born with Conqueror’s Haki is essentially the work of fate, so is being born into a bloodline that is that of conquerors. Now, this doesn’t mean that every single offspring of a conqueror can have Conqueror’s Haki, however, chances are, one of the offspring of conquerors is likely going to have this ability up their sleeve.

So he really was born with it. – Garp

This has been hinted at on many occasions. In fact, clearly implied in Marineford that a bloodline can pass down this Haki, and that’s why Doberman was not surprised at Luffy having it, given that Garp and Dragon are users of this power as well.

Similarly, Ace, who is Roger’s son, was born with Conqueror’s Haki as well. Similarly, Yamato, who fans not to be the child of Kaido, was born with this ability too. Katakuri, Big Mom’s second son, had this power as well, even though this ability seems to have skipped his other siblings. That is to say that Conqueror’s Haki can be passed down through bloodline, however, it is certainly not a guarantee.

He’s the son of the Revolutionary Dragon. It is not a surprise that he has that ability. – Vice Admiral Doberman

It does increase the chances of one to wield this power, however, that is not to say that without a royal bloodline, this ability cannot be attained. Those who have no connection to conquerors still can have this ability, however, the chances certainly do improve due to having a connection to conquerors.

The Importance Of Ambition

Great Ambition Matters Most Of All

Ambition certainly does not matter much when it comes to being born with Conqueror’s Haki. As a newborn, a child cannot have ambition. Only destiny can be thrust upon them, and their ambition doesn’t stem forth until much later in life. However, if a child is blessed with Conqueror’s Haki, then ambition plays a massive role in bringing it out. A common trait among the conquerors of the One Piece world is that they all have incredible ambition to reach the very top of the world in different ways.

In fact, it can be said that having kingly ambitions, or great ambitions, in general, is a requirement for a user to awaken Conqueror’s Haki. Without these ambitions, even if one is born with Conqueror’s Haki, they most likely will not awaken it. That is why recognizing one’s own ambition is very important in order for this power to truly manifest. When these factors are met, one can then truly be called a conqueror in the One Piece World. Essentially, Conqueror’s Haki is the work of fate as the individual has been canonically stated to be chosen by the heavens. This means that it is luck that plays a major role in an individual wielding Conqueror’s Haki, and from there onwards, if that individual showcases great ambition in life, they can bring their Conqueror’s Haki to a head.

How far they can go with Conqueror’s Haki depends on them. If they are truly among the strongest, they can then advance this technique and gain Conqueror’s Haki Infusion. Others seem to be average despite having Conqueror’s Haki. It is truly a question of what the user can make with what they are gifted with.
