Beetlejuice 2 costume designer Colleen Atwood confirms the sequel will feature the return of Michael Keaton’s 35-year-old iconic striped suit costume. The sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 horror comedy will see the return of Keaton’s slimy, quick-talking bio-exorcist and an older Lydia Deetz portrayed by Winona Ryder alongside her stepmother, Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz. The Beetlejuice 2 cast will also include Jenna Ortega, Willem Defoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci as new characters, including new family members and all-new residents of the afterlife.
While production on Beetlejuice 2 is paused due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike for fairer pay and career protections, costume designer Atwood revealed to ComicBook.com that the titular character’s iconic black-and-white striped suit was a priority returning look for the sequel. While the costume designer emphasized how the look was incredibly recognizable and intertwined with the overall character, she admitted that Keaton felt a different look was a more recognizable appearance when he suggested the character’s tattered burgundy tuxedo from the movie’s wedding climax
