28 YEARS LATER (2026) – CONFIRMED!
28 Years Later is finally becoming a reality after years of Danny Boyle expressing his desire to revisit this world. The movie was officially greenlit in January 2024, with Boyle helming the project and Alex Garland returning to pen the script for the trilogy. While Boyle and Garland collaborated on 28 Days Later, they only served as executive producers on the sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Interestingly, 28 Years Later marks the commencement of a new trilogy set within this universe. Garland will write the sequel, while Boyle will produce, with Nia DaCosta slated to direct. There’s both good and bad news: Cillian Murphy is attached to the project, but not in an acting role. Murphy will serve as an executive producer, and it remains uncertain whether he’ll reprise his character Jim. Murphy didn’t return for the sequel due to scheduling conflicts, although Jim’s survival at the end of the first film leaves the door open for his potential return.
