Though there have already been some amazing menswear ensembles from the 2024 Met Gala, Lewis Hamilton has gone full messiah.
For as long as we can remember, Lewis Hamilton has been a style hero. He uses his enormous money to attend every Grand Prix and red carpet event looking stunning, frequently right off the runway (if it ever makes it that far).
The Met Gala this evening is no different. The F1 kingpin has made an arrival wearing an all-black ensemble that defies many formal menswear traditions. It certainly fits in perfectly with this particular personal style and, perhaps more importantly, plows a fascinating new fashion trail that many other celebrities are likely to follow.
The mandarin collar jacket and black overcoat with a floral pattern create a striking yet modest silhouette, but what truly drew our attention was Hamilton’s selection of jeweled accessories. His customary array of bracelets and rings gives the ensemble a much-needed sparkle, but it was his necklace of thorns that truly drew our attention.
Hamilton is undoubtedly regarded by many as the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time, but is he hinting subtly to his divine status?
Finished off with characteristic shades and ankle boots, this ensemble is fantastic—even by Hamilton’s extraordinarily high standards. Even while he hasn’t experienced a moment at the gala quite as exciting as Daniel Riccardo’s encounter with Anne Hathaway from the previous year, he will undoubtedly win the DMARGE trophy for best-dressed sportsmen.
Without a question, the thing we love best about this ensemble is how well it exemplifies the ageless notion that an all-black ensemble is a classy yet timeless approach to always make a statement at any occasion, regardless of formality or dress code.
Nevertheless, there is plenty of time for a Tom Ford-style splash of color; perhaps Hamilton can save this for the following year.
