According to Lewis Hamilton, he is not “unhappy” at Mercedes.
Before making a high-profile move to Ferrari for the upcoming season, Hamilton is in the penultimate year of his contract with the team that has produced six of his seven Formula One championships.
Since the disastrous 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which Hamilton’s record-tying seventh title disappeared under controversy, his cars have not been good enough to challenge Red Bull.
This season, Max Verstappen is getting closer to winning four titles in a row.
Hamilton discussed his decision to leave Mercedes with CBS: “This entire trip has been really emotional for me.
“Just because I adore this team so much.
“I’m not unhappy there, so I’m not leaving.” My departure is not due to problems in my relationship.
“They have supported me through good times and bad. Thus, it’s undoubtedly an odd transition right now.
“We are here to succeed. And you have to change your perspective when you’re not winning.
And at that point, improvement and chasing are the only things that matter. It’s all about uniting.
“What changes can we make? How can we return to our desired state?
“And motivating everyone.” I find that to be a really enjoyable experience.
But after three years? This is plenty for me! Come with us back to our rightful place.”
After a challenging F1 Miami Grand Prix the previous weekend, Hamilton glumly admitted, “That’s just the pace of our car.”
111 points behind leader Verstappen, he is ranked tenth in the Formula One standings.
However, a shift to Ferrari in 2025 would revive his chances of winning the championship.
Driving into his 40s, Hamilton will do so while donning the iconic colors of the most successful Formula One team.
