Boxing fans begin extraordinary conspiracy theory as they accuse Oleksandr Usyk of ‘using an inhaler’ between rounds during his victory over Tyson Fury

Boxing fans have raised suspicions of Oleksandr Usyk allegedly breaking rules during his victory over Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian became the first undisputed heavyweight world champion in a quarter of a century, with a split-decision victory over the Gypsy King.

However, some viewers began a conspiracy theory on social media that Usyk was ‘using an inhaler’ between rounds.

Footage appeared to show Usyk putting something to his mouth while sat in his corner.

However, other fans have argued that there was no wrongdoing by Usyk, with there being no suggestion that Usyk did use an inhaler other than from a number of boxing supporters on social media.

Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become the new undisputed world heavyweight champion

Some boxing fans suggested Usyk was taking an inhaler between rounds, though others argued that the Ukrainian was not breaking rules and just kissing a cross

One fan argued that ‘Tyson Fury got cheated’ while another said ‘anyone notice they gave what looked like an inhaler to Usyk in round 6/7?’

Another boxing supporter also questioned: ‘Did Usyk just take an inhaler in the corner?’

The latter comment got a response though which suggested that another angle showed Usyk was just kissing a religious cross.

A fifth person pointed out: ‘Looking very closely I see a cross. I haven’t used an inhaler before but wouldn’t it look more obvious?

‘Won’t we see Usyk taking a breath in and such? I didn’t see those signs.’

One fan made light of a video showing the moment, writing: ‘WOW. Usyk was captured by a fan using what looks like an inhaler in the undisputed heavyweight fight with Fury…. never mind it’s a cross.’

While in their corners, fighters are only allowed to use water and Vaseline – not even energy gels.

Some fans also raised the question of whether the footage was just Usyk having a sip of water.

Usyk won via split decision with his ninth round pummeling of the Gypsy King proving vital on the judges’ scorecards

Usyk won on the judges’ scorecards 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113 on Saturday night

Usyk’s victory meant the Gypsy King suffered defeat for the first time in his career.

The moment which proved decisive was in the ninth round when an official knockdown was scored as Usyk pummeled the British heavyweight.

Fury fell back against the ropes and the bell saved him at the end of the right.

After the fight, Fury’s promoter said: ‘I believe the referee saved Tyson from a knock-out and stole the ninth-round knock-out, which should have happened.’
