Pop star Lizzo has announced she will change the lyrics of her new song “Grrrls” following the backlash she received from the disabled community. However, Lizzo on Monday clarified that she did not want to “promote derogatory language,” and she would release a new version of the song with lyrics changed. Besides, she said that she was “proud” to change the lyrics of the song “Grrrls.
While informing about the release of the new version of the song, Lizzo stated that she could understand how hurtful words can affect a person negatively, as she had also faced such issues for being a fat black woman in the U.S. She added that she was changing the contentious lyrics proudly.
The new version of “Grrrls” has the lyric “hold me back” in place of the controversial phrase. The old version of the song has already been pulled down from several song streaming platforms. Besides, platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music have uploaded the new version of the song.
Meanwhile, several fans of Lizzo and disability advocates praised Lizzo for her instant and caring actions. Fans said that they were proud of the singer as she listened to the concerns of the disabled community and changed the lyrics of her song.
