MTV EMA Awards (European Music Awards) 2023 has just announced the list of winners after  the awards ceremony in Paris was canceled  due to the impact of the Israel and Gaza war. Big winning artists include Taylor Swift, Jungkook, Nicki Minaj and Måneskin.

Taylor Swift unexpectedly missed out on the Outstanding American Artist award

According to Billboard, on November 5, MTV said: “After fans around the world voted for their favorite categories including Best Artist, Best Song and many other categories, MTV announced accept the following award-winning artists”.

Taylor Swift suddenly lost the Best American Artist award to Nicki Minaj

Taylor Swift  is the biggest winner of this year’s award with 3 awards: Outstanding Artist, Best Live Performance and Best Music Video for MV Anti-Hero .

However, what is surprising is that the Best American Artist award slipped out of the female singer’s hands. This award went to female rapper Nicki Minaj, who also won the award for Outstanding Hip-Hop Artist.

Taylor Swift leads with 20 nominations at the Billboard Music Awards

Compared to competitors in this category, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and SZA, Taylor Swift has outstanding achievements this year, although those other names are also very successful.

This result may make Taylor Swift fans unhappy because her current position in the American music world is undeniable, especially after the world’s most popular tour, The Eras Tour .

Currently, in the American music world, there is a view that compared to the achievements of female artists, only  Taylor Swift and Beyoncé  are equal.

Jungkook extended his streak of solo achievements

Besides Nicki Minaj, two other artists who won a double at this year’s MTV EMA are male singer Jungkook and rock group Måneskin.

Jungkook , a member of the popular group BTS and just released a solo album, won the grand prize for Best Song for Seven (combined with female rapper Latto, the award is not in the K-pop system); and the Outstanding K-pop Artist award.

Seven is one of the biggest hits of the year when it just reached 1 billion Spotify streams the fastest ever. This is an impressive achievement as it surpassed big hits such as  Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero , Doja Cat’s Paint the Town Red , Miley Cyrus’s Flowers .
