One Piece will not be ending anytime soon.
One Piece is currently in the Final Saga and fans are incredibly excited to see where the story goes from here onwards. With each passing chapter, the excitement of the fans only gets even higher and, it is safe to say that the Final Saga has kick-started in a brilliant fashion, with Egghead Island being one of the very best arcs after the timeskip of the story.
Of course, One Piece will continue for years to come. While Oda wants the series to wrap up as quickly as possible, it is highly unlikely for it to wrap up within the next 5 years. The series will like to continue for longer, however, eventually it will come to an end. This has led many to wonder as to what the future of One Piece is going to be once this happens and it is quite clear at the moment. One Piece will likely continue with spin-offs and this is something that Oda has confirmed himself in the past.
One Piece’s End
The end of One Piece is something that every fan both wants and dreads at the same time. Fans want to know how this masterpiece that Oda has created is going to end. Luffy has been on his journey to claim the One Piece for decades now and it is only a matter of time before he gets to it. Luffy has already become a powerful Yonko and has acquired three of the four Road Poneglyphs. This means that he is closest to the One Piece at the moment and it won’t take him long to get there. Currently, the story is in the Final Saga and that, in itself, is proof that Luffy is very close to achieving what he has wanted in life.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that One Piece is going to end anytime soon as sagas last for years in One Piece. In fact, the previous saga, called the Four Emperors Saga, lasted for around 8 years and that goes to show that the Final Saga is not going to wrap up anytime soon. The Egghead Island arc is still ongoing and will likely continue for long. Then, there are other major arcs that need to be tackled by the author, such as the Elbaf arc and, of course, Luffy claiming the One Piece and the Great War as well. One Piece still has many years left and fans should not expect it to end anytime before 2029, at the very least. In fact, it is entirely possible for One Piece to get to 2030 as well, and end at some point after that.
Oda’s Spin-Offs After The End Of One Piece
When One Piece ends, the story will not continue with a sequel manga. Often, fans have seen many shonen stories that have been popular among fans receive sequels and continue. That is likely not going to be the case with One Piece. Previously, the editor-in-chief of Shueisha has mentioned that he would like for One Piece to continue forever. This isn’t a surprise to any fan, given that One Piece makes quite a lot of money and its popularity keeps on increasing with each passing year. This is more true now than ever before, given that the One Piece Live Action series was a massive success all over the world.
Ideally, people would want One Piece to continue forever, however, that is not going to be the case. Once Oda draws the final panel of the story, which he has had planned since his high school days, One Piece will not continue anymore. However, that doesn’t mean there are not going to be spin-off mangas for the series. The One Piece world is quite diverse and there are quite a lot of things for Oda to write about. Oda has already mentioned that he would love to tackle some One Piece spin-off mangas eventually that focus on different characters and explore various relationships that they have. As such, fans should be incredibly happy to know that they will likely keep on getting One Piece content even after the series ends, however, not weekly as they do now. This content will likely be published at Oda’s own comfort and whenever he thinks he is most comfortable in doing so.
Garp Spin-off
One of the most important characters in One Piece that Oda has always wanted to draw a spin-off about is Garp, the Hero of the Marines. Fans know that Garp is Luffy’s grandfather and certainly a very important character in the overarching plot of the story. He was first introduced to the fans back in the East Blue and, ever since then, he has continued to rise in popularity. Fans know that Garp is an incredible Marine, however, fans do not know much about him, other than what little they have seen themselves or what they have heard from legends.
What they do know is that Garp is a legendary finger who could rival the likes of Roger in combat. Fans also know that Garp believes in his own sense of justice, even though he knows that the higher-ups of the Marines are corrupt. He wishes to raise the next generation that will change the Marines from the inside and, for those reasons, along with many others, Garp has always been popular. When it comes to Garp, in particular, Oda mentioned that he would love to focus on his relationship with the younger Marines, such as Kuzan, Akainu, Koby, Helmeppo, Tashigi, among others in a spin-off.
Oda also mentioned that he would like to explore Garp’s relationship with the Cipher Pol. This is rather interesting as fans have not seen much pertaining to this in the manga. Finally, Oda also mentioned that he would love for Garp and Roger’s relationship to be explored a bit more. This is something that every fan of One Piece would absolutely love, given that fans know that even though they were enemies, they had great respect for each other. Their relationship was only briefly shown in the manga and a spin-off on that would be absolutely perfect.
Revolutionary Army Spin-off
Another character that Oda would absolutely love to write a spin-off about is Dragon. Readers know Dragon to be the leader of the Revolutionary Army who has built himself up to become an extremely powerful and important character. As a former Marine, Oda believes that Dragon would be an extremely amazing character to explore further. Unfortunately, given that One Piece primarily focuses on the Straw Hat Pirates, fans did not get to see the growth of the Revolutionary Army properly. A spin-off manga would remedy that greatly. It would lead fans to see Dragon’s life in its entirety and why exactly he made the decisions that he did, and how he got as strong as he did.
Of course, they’re likely more spin-offs that Oda has and his mind that fans would likely get to see once One Piece concludes. For now, however, the Final Saga continues to heat up and all focus remains on that.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. Since One Piece is going to be on break, the release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1099, is set to be November 26, 2023.
