The soccer player tells PEOPLE that the whole team has their “fingers crossed” that they’ll eventually get to meet Swift
Brittany Mahomes is an “awesome” team owner for the Kansas City Current, the team’s forward Michelle Cooper tells PEOPLE.
Fresh off of her rookie season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), 20-year-old Cooper says Mahomes, 28, “is around quite a lot” and stays involved with her soccer team throughout the season.
“She drops in a lot. She comes and says hi to the girls, and she’s awesome. I’ve chatted with her a couple of times,” says Cooper. “I haven’t really gotten very close with her yet, but she’s great.”
Mahomes is a co-founder of the team, alongside Chris and Angie Long. Her husband, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, became an investor in the team in January.
In July, the Current announced plans to open a new $120 million facility. The stadium is the first to be exclusively built for a women’s professional sports team and is set to open in Spring 2024.

An ambassador for the NWSL’s partner Ally, Cooper says the Current’s ownership team is “really breaking ground for women’s sports” with the construction of the stadium, “and I’m so grateful that I get to be a part of it and I cannot wait.”
Beyond the groundbreaking effort for women’s soccer, Cooper says there are plenty of fun perks that come with playing for a Mahomes-owned soccer team.
“Brittany always makes sure to be able to get us Chiefs tickets, which is really fun,” says the KC Current forward.
Cooper and her teammates were in attendance at one of the Chiefs games attended by Taylor Swift amid her ongoing relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.

“I was at a Chiefs game that Taylor was at and it was awesome. That’s all we could talk about,” Cooper shares. “Of course, the game was cool, but we were all like, ‘Wow, Taylor Swift is here. Do you think we could meet Taylor Swift?’ It was so funny.”
The opportunity to meet Swift may not be out of reach for the Current players, considering the singer’s budding friendship with Mahomes.
“Oh my God. Trust me, all of our fingers are crossed,” Cooper says of her teammates and their hopes to meet Swift. “It’s hysterical.”
But the Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium wasn’t the first time Cooper has shared stadium air with Swift. “I went to her 1989 Tour,” the soccer player tells PEOPLE.
“I loved it. I had so much fun. I’ve never really been super, super into anyone really, but she is someone that I could constantly listen to. She’s so good.”
