Brilliant Nigerian Lady graduates as an Electrical Engineer with first-class, wins PhD scholarship to US university

A brilliant Nigerian Lady, Esiri Oghenekaro has won a PhD Scholarship to study Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, New York, United States after an outstanding performance in her undergraduate degree.

Esiri Oghenekaro graduated with a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Benin, South-South, Nigeria. She earned a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.80 out of a possible 5.

Just two years after her graduation, she won a PhD scholarship to Cornell University in New York despite not having a Master’s degree. Narrating how she achieved the exceptional feat, Esiri Oghenekaro stated that she had always wished to further her education abroad

“I made a decision this time last year August 2021, that I was going to go abroad for my studies, one year later and I’m here! I’m happy to announce that I have gotten a fully funded PhD offer in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University,” she wrote on LinkedIn.

“I got a fully-funded scholarship which covers tuition, health insurance and living expenses stipends for my time here and I am super grateful to God for the opportunity,” she added.

Esiri Oghenekaro thanked her family and everyone who had supported her dream. “I want to thank my family and friends for their emotional support during my application process. It’s been one hell of a journey,” she wrote.

In another story, an exceptional 20-year-old man named Jeremiah Thoronka won the Chegg.org global prize award and was named United Nations Academic Impact Millennium Fellow after inventing a device that uses energy from people walking to generate clean power.

Jeremiah Thoronka who hails from Sierra Leonne narrated that he decided to explore the world of power generation as a result of the poor electricity supply that ravages his country.
