Margot Robbie is putting a pause on her Barbiecore-inspired looks in favour of an edgier aesthetic. On 9 May, she joined a star-studded front row at the Chanel cruise 2024 show in Los Angeles, wearing a surprising ensemble for the actor.

Channelling the ’70s, she chose a black bra top and mid-rise bell-bottom jeans that came with an exaggerated flare. She layered on a barely there gold vest entirely held together by Chanel chains and charms, adding a classic quilted bag from the luxury brand. It’s likely she worked with longtime stylist Kate Young to bring the look to life. Robbie is certainly no stranger to a head-to-toe Chanel outfit, but she typically opts for more elegant, minimalist ensembles, as opposed to daring cuts and silhouettes.

Models presented Chanel’s latest resort collection at Paramount Studios, inspired by the fashion house’s cinematic connection to the City of Angels. While the cruise line featured the designer’s signature tweed sets and black-and-white dresses, it also introduced new pieces like sporty leg warmers, skater-girl bottoms, and youthful footwear. Robbie and husband Tom Ackerley enjoyed the show alongside other friends of the brand, including newlyweds Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge, mother-daughter duo Iris Apatow and Leslie Mann, Lil Nas X, and Paris Hilton.
