Antony Starr Admits He “Never Wanted To Be Actor” To Co-star Karl Urban Despite ‘The Boys’ Fame

The Boys star Antony Starr revealed that he never wanted to become an actor.

The adult superhero comic book series The Boys‘ television series adaptation, The Boys, was released on Amazon Prime Video on July 26, 2019. Upon release, the show attracted many viewers as it explored the dark side of superheroes who abuse their powers. At the time, it received a lot of positive reviews, becoming one of the most successful originals ever released by Prime Video.

The main cast of the show, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Elisabeth Shue, became well-known names around the world thanks to the show, however, Anthony Starr, who plays the central role of Homelander in the series, once revealed that he never wanted to be an actor.

In a conversation with actor Karl Urban for Amazon Prime Video, The Boys star Antony Starr revealed earlier this year that he never planned on becoming an actor,

“I never wanted to be an actor, I didn’t know about the film industry. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m gonna do when I grow up.”

Before The Boys, Starr appeared in various movies and TV shows like Mercy PeakBansheeRushAmerican Gothic, and Wish You Were Here. With the role of Homelander in The Boys, Starr became a household name around the world.

Further in the interview, Starr’ The Boys co-star, Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher in the show, joked that Starr’s weakness is what makes his character scary,

“I think that’s what makes your character so vibrant and so scary,” adding, “You just have no idea of what you’re gonna do at any particular juncture.”

The Boys premiered its first season of eight episodes on July 26, 2019. A second season premiered on September 4, 2020, with the third season following on June 3, 2022. The series was renewed for a fourth season, which is scheduled to be released in 2024. The success of the TV show led to the creation of various spin-offs like Seven on 7Diabolical, and, Gen V. The show has been massively praised for its writing, storyline, humor, effects, and performances of the cast, becoming one of the best shows of all time in the satirical superhero genre.
