Conor McGregor’s UFC rival Eddie Alvarez shows off gruesome eye injury after bare-knuckle defeat against Mike Perry

Former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez suffered a horror eye injury during his bare-knuckle defeat to fellow MMA icon Mike Perry.

The 39-year-old’s fight against ‘Platinum’ lasted just four minutes with his corner stopping the contest after the second round.

It is Alvarez’s first defeat in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship [BKFC] after he beat Chad Mendes on a split decision victory in April.

As for Perry, he has moved to 4-0 in the promotion, with his latest victory in Utah earning him the symbolic ‘King of Violence’ championship.

Perry was able to take Alvarez’s best punches with relative ease, while inflicting massive punishment on ‘The Underground King’ with huge shots of his own.

And in what was a fast-paced dust-up, Alvarez’s team begrudgingly pulled him out of the contest with the ex-UFC lightweight champ unable to see out of his left eye.

His gruesome injury was on show in the post-fight press conference, with Conor McGregor’s former foe revealing it is likely he suffered a broken orbital bone.

He said: “I think bare-knuckle is the fastest-growing sport in the world. I love this, I really do. I was on point.

“I was so sharp. Unfortunately this sport is so volatile, you just don’t know. I think my orbital’s smashed up and that’s all she wrote.

“It f****** sucks, it was a good show, the fans won; I didn’t win, but the fans won. I thought Mike would go down and he didn’t, my hat goes off to Mike Perry, the guy’s a f****** battle axe.

“Mike was the better man, I take my wins and I take my losses the same way and keep my head high.

“I’m not 100 per cent sure when he landed the shot he landed, but midway though the second I felt my eye closing and when I sat down I went to open my mouth a bit and I think my orbital is smashed up a bit.

“I started getting into a firefight with him and that’s not something you do with Mike Perry, it’s foolish.”

Perry then decided to call out McGregor in his post-fight interview – just months after they squared off following his win over Luke Rockhold.

He remarked: “Conor McGregor would be a great match-up. I just beat somebody he fought for a world title.

“Who’s bigger than that? There’s no one bigger than Conor McGregor except me. These boxers don’t want to take the gloves off.

“Darren Till said he doesn’t want to do it with no gloves. Who wants to fight ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry with no gloves?”
